WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL?

Charter schools are independently-operated public schools that have the freedom to design classrooms that meet their scholars’ needs. All charter schools operate under a contract with a charter school authorizer – usually a nonprofit organization, government agency, or university – that holds them accountable to the high standards outlined in their “charter.”

IS THERE AN ENROLLMENT FEE?

No.  There is no fee to enroll or attend Houston Classical Charter school.  We are a tuition-free school. As a public school, we receive state and federal funding and we also rely on private funding from our supporters. 

IF MY CHILD IS AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) ARE THEY ALLOWED TO ENROLL?

Yes, we welcome English Language Learners.  We believe our focus on literacy will especially benefit our ELL Scholars.

WHAT GRADES DO YOU OFFER?

We are currently accepting enrollment for Kindergarten and 1st grade.  We will expand one grade every year so that eventually we have K-8 grades.   

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ATTEND YOUR SCHOOL?

There is no tocst to attend our school. Houston Classical is a public school. It is free.

HOW DO YOU SELECT STUDENTS?

Scholars are admitted in the order in which they submit enrollment forms. If we have more enrollment forms than spots, admission will be decided by random lottery.

HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL YOU ENROLL?

150 scholars. 75 Kindergarteners and 75 1st graders.

HOW AND WHEN DO I ENROLL?

We are currently accepting enrollment for the 2020-2021 school year. Please  visit www.applyhouston.schoolmint.net  

WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF MY CHILD IS ACCEPTED?

If we are oversubscribed, our lottery will take place in June 2020. Families will be contacted, via email and phone call, within 24 hours of our lottery. 

WHEN IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL?

The first day of school will be August 17, 2020. 

DO YOU PROVIDE TRANSPORTATION?

While we do not offer a school bus, there is public transportation available via Metro Bus Route 075 - Eldridge which stops right in front of our campus. Visit this link to view the map and bus route.
