WHAT IS A CHARTER SCHOOL?
Charter schools are independently-operated public schools that have the freedom to design classrooms that meet their scholars’ needs. All charter schools operate under a contract with a charter school authorizer – usually a nonprofit organization, government agency, or university – that holds them accountable to the high standards outlined in their “charter.”
IS THERE AN APPLICATION FEE?
IF MY CHILD IS AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNER (ELL) ARE THEY ALLOWED TO APPLY?
Yes, we welcome English Language Learners.
WHAT GRADES DO YOU OFFER?
Beginning November 1st, we will be accepting applications for Kindergarten and 1st grade.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO ATTEND YOUR SCHOOL?
Nothing. Houston Classical is a public school. It is free.
HOW DO YOU SELECT STUDENTS?
Scholars are admitted in the order in which they apply. If we have more applications than places, admission is by random lottery.
HOW MANY STUDENTS WILL YOU ENROLL?
150 scholars. 75 Kindergarteners and 75 1st graders.
HOW AND WHEN DO I APPLY?
Our applications will become live on December 1, 2019. Once our application is live you can either apply via this website.
As the days get closer to the application date, we will provide more information as to the multiple ways you can inquire and apply to Houston Classical.
WHEN WILL I FIND OUT IF MY CHILD IS ACCEPTED?
Our lottery will take place on April 5, 2020. Families will be contacted, via email and phone call, within 24 hours of our lottery.
WHEN IS THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL?
The first day of school will be August 10, 2020.
